ANSWERS TO LESSON 1

What Is Salvation?

The Bible consists of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament was written before Christ was born. The New Testament tells about the coming of Christ and what He has done for us. For this Bible chapter, all that you will need is the New Testament for right now. We will be studying in the Gospel of John, which is the fourth book of the New Testament. When you see numbers at the end of each question like "3:16", it means the third chapter and the sixteenth verse. Do not be afraid to underscore verses in your Bible with a pen, or write references in the margin. Remember, we take the Bible literally, or just as it is. So, write your answers as you find them in the Bible. Salvation is being saved from the penalty of sin into new life in Jesus Christ. We will be in the book of John for several lessons.

01.01 In John 8:12, what title is given to Jesus? The Light of the World.

01.02 Are all men naturally willing to come to the Light? John 3:19 No.

01.03 Why? Men love darkness rather than light.

01.04 Why are men willing to stay in darkness? John 3:20
Their deeds are evil and they hate the light. Their deeds will be reproved.

01.05 Even though we feel that our deeds are covered by darkness, what does the Bible teach in John 2:24 and 2:25?
           Jesus knows all men.

01.06 Can a man be free and sin also? John 8:34 No. Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

01.07 If man will not listen to God's Word, where does God place him? John 8:47
Outside the Family of God. He is the unsaved.

01.08 If we do not belong to God, to whom do we belong? John 8:44 The Devil.

01.09 Men are sinners because . . . John 16:9 They believed NOT on Christ.

01.10 What abides upon those who do not believe on God's son? John 3:36 The wrath of God abides on him.

01.11 When is man condemned, now or after death? John 3:18 Now. He is already condemned.

01.12 Why is man condemned right now? John 3:18 Because he believed NOT.

01.13 What must one "do" in order to be lost? John 3:18 Don't believe on the name of Jesus Christ.

01.14 Did Christ come into the world to judge us? John 3:17 No.

01.15 Why did Jesus come to earth? John 3:17 To save us.

01.16 In spite of our sinful condition, what is God's attitude toward us? John 3:16 He loves us.

01.17 What is God's proof that He loves us? John 3:16 He gave His only begotten Son.

01.18 According to 3:16, who took the initiative in salvation. God or man? God.

01.19 What are the two principal reasons for God giving Jesus to die in my place?
John 3:16 (1) That I might not perish. (2) That I would have everlasting life.

01.20 What does the word "whosoever" mean? John 3:16 Anybody.

01.21 Does that include you? Yes.

01.22 If I am not to perish, and if I am to receive eternal life, what must I do? John 3:16 Believe in Him (Christ).

01.23 If I come to Jesus, will He ever cast me out? John 6:37 No. He said, "I will no wise cast out."

01.24 Can you honestly say that you are saved? You will have to supply your own answer to this question.

CONCLUSION:
Salvation is accepting Jesus Christ, God's sacrifice and substitute for our sins, as your personal Saviour. This is called
"born-again" or the "new birth." Literally, when you accept Christ as Saviour, you pass from spiritual death to spiritual life.
You were put "in Christ Jesus", by the Holy Spirit. Read John 1:12. "But as many as received him, to them gave he power
to become the sons (children) of God, even to them that believe on His name."
