In John 1:1 we read, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Then, in verse 14 of the same Chapter we read, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory as of the only begotten of the Father.) full of grace and truth." According to these scriptures, Jesus Christ is the Word of God. In John 5:39, Jesus said, "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are they which testify of me." This is why it is of the utmost importance to learn how to study God's Word. You will need both the Old and New Testaments for this study.

05.19 According to Psalm 119:167, what does God want us to feel toward His Word?
Love obeying His Word.
05:20 What will a man avoid if his delight is in the Law of the Lord?
Psalm 1:1-2 Counsel of the ungodly, fellowship with ungodly, agreement with the ungodly.
05.21 What kind of heart will a man have if he keeps the Word of God? Luke 11:28 A blessed heart.
05.22 Who did Jesus say would be blessed? Luke 11:28 The one who hears and obeys.
05.23 Does this include you? You will have to answer this question. ________
05.24 List 3 reasons for daily reading of the Bible. Deuteronomy 17:19
(1) Learn to fear the Lord his God.
(2) To keep all of the Law.
(3) To keep the statutes.
05.25 In Psalm 119:11, where must the Word be in order for us not to sin? In your heart.
05.26 How does Proverbs 2:4 indicate we should study the Word?
Treat it like a hidden treasure and search for her daily.
05.27 What should be our goal in studying the Bible? II Timothy 2:15 To be approved unto God.
05.28 In your own words, what does God want us to do about His Word in:
(a) Deuteronomy 11:18,19,23 Parents, hid God's Word in your heart and teach your children in your
home, in your life from the time you get up til you lie down. Then God will bless.
(b) Proverbs 7:3 Keep God's Word in your heart.
05.29 In Matthew 4:4,7,10, how did Jesus overcome Satan's temptations three times?
For it is written: Believe, trust, and obey. Be ye doers of the Word and not hearers only!
05.30 Do you see any way that you might apply this example to your own situation?
When Satan temps us we can and must rely on God's Word for victory - nothing else works.
05.31 Write out Psalm 40:8 in your own words. God's Word is in my heart and I delight to do His will and
not my own. I must be reminded that I should not be the center of things like the "I" in the center of
sin or the "I" in the center of pride.
(After 24 hours, you may accurately remember:)
05% of what you hear
15% of what you read
35% of what you study
You can remember 100% of what you memorize.
(That's why the pastor stresses memorizing God's Word . . .
. . . hide it in your heart that you might not sin against God!)
05.32 What promise is made to the person who continually meditates on the Word? Joshua 1:8
He shall prosper and have good success - this is the only place in the Bible that the word success is found.
05.33 Consider Luke 6:45. Do you think that meditating on God's Word can affect our actions? If so, how?
What a man places in his heart will come out of his mouth. Can you spot a non-believer by his language?
05.34 Besides being diligent in studying God's Word, what else should we do in order to understand it?
Psalm 119:18, 73, 125 "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law."
Ask for understanding.
05.35 What does the Lord want us to do about such things as those in Philippians 4:8-9?
Think or meditate and what we have learned, received, heard and seen - DO!!!
There are two questions we ought to ask ourselves as we study the Word of God. Meditate on the verse
or verses and ask:
(1) "What is its real meaning using the context?"
(2) "How should this affect my life?"
CONCLUSION:
In your life as a Christian, you will discover how precious the Word of God truly is.
